How to Find Area, Perimeter and Diagonal of Square?
The area of a square is the area occupied by the boundary of a square. It can also be defined as the number of squares used to cover up a square. The formula to calculate the area of a square is given by
Area of the square = side2 or (side x side) square units.
The perimeter of a square is defined as the total length of all four sides of a square. Hence we can find the perimeter by adding all four sides of a square. As all sides of a square are equal, the perimeter of a square is side + side + side + side.
Perimeter of a square = (4 × side) units
Diagonal of a square: In a square, the lengths of both the diagonals are the same. The length of a diagonal, d of a square of side length 'x' is calculated by the Pythagoras theorem.
Diagonal of a square = √2 × side units
Solved Examples on Square Calculator
-
Example1:
Find the area of a square whose side length is 7 units.
Solution:
Given: Side length = 7
The formula for the area of a square is:
Area = side2
= 72
= 49 square units
-
Example2:
Find the perimeter of a square whose side is 5 units.
Solution:
Perimeter of a square = 4 × side units
= 4 × 5
= 20 units.
-
Example3:
Find the diagonal of a square whose side is 5 units.
Solution:
Diagonal of a square = √2 × side units
=√2 × 5
= 7.07 units.
Similarly, now you can use the calculator to find the area, perimeter, and diagonal of a square for the following:
- Side length = 8 units
- Side length = 15 units
