The diameter of a circle is 6 yards. What is the circle's circumference?
Solution:
The diameter of a circle is the longest chord in the circle that passes through the centre of the circle. Generally the diameter of the circle will be twice the radius of the circle or radius is half of the diameter i.e., if ‘d’ is diameter and ‘r’ is radius of the circle, d = r/2.
The circumference of a circle is the perimeter of the circle. It is the total length of the boundary of the circle. The circumference of a circle is the product of the constant π and the diameter of the circle i.e., (2r)(π)
Given that the diameter of the circle is 6 yards
∴ The radius of the circle is = 3 yards
The circumference of the circle whose radius ‘r’ is 2πr
= 2(π)(3) = 6π yards
Example: Find the circumference of the circle whose area is 25π Sq. feet.
Given that area of the circle = 25π Sq. feet
We have an area of the circle whose radius ‘r’ is πr²
Here, πr² = 25 π
⇒ r = 5
Also we have circumference of the circle whose radius ‘r’ is 2πr
=2(π)(5) = 10π feet.
The diameter of a circle is 6 yards. What is the circle's circumference?
Summary:
The circumference of the circle whose diameter is 6 yards is 6π yards
