Find the value of two numbers if their sum is 12 and their difference is 4
Solution:
Linear equations are nothing but yet another subset of "equations". Any linear calculations requiring more than one variable can be done with the help of linear equations. The standard form of a linear equation in one variable is of the form ax + b = 0. Here, x is a variable, and a and b are constants.
Let us consider the two numbers as x and y
Given, the sum of two numbers is 12.
x + y = 12 --- (1)
The difference of two numbers is 4.
x - y = 4 --- (2)
We have to find the value of two numbers.
From (2),
⇒ x = 4 + y
Put the value of x in (1),
⇒ 4 + y + y = 12
⇒ 4 + 2y = 12
⇒ 2y = 12 - 4
⇒ 2y = 8
⇒ y = 8/2
⇒ y = 4
Put y = 4 in (1)
⇒ x + 4 = 12
⇒ x = 12 - 4
⇒ x = 8
Therefore, the value of two numbers are 8 and 4.
Find the value of two numbers if their sum is 12 and their difference is 4
Summary:
The value of two numbers if their sum is 12 and their difference is 4 are 8 and 4.
