Which is greater in the following? 3/4, 7/8

Solution:

Given, the numbers are 3/4 and 7/8

We have to find the greater of the two numbers.

Considering both the numbers,

Taking LCM of 4 and 8,

4 = 2 × 2

8 = 2 × 2 × 2

LCM of 4 and 8 = 8

Now, 3/4 = 3 × 2 / 4 × 2 = 6/8

7/8 = 7 × 1 / 8 × 1 = 7/8

Taking 6/8 and 7/8,

Since the denominators are same

6 < 7

So, 7/8 > 3/4.

Therefore, the greater number is 7/8.
