ii) 1/2 of 6/7 or 2/3 of 3/7

Solution:

A fraction is defined as equal parts of a whole thing where numerator represents the number of equal parts and denominator represents equal parts of the whole thing.

Let's convert the fractions into like fractions then compare its numerator.

i) 2/7 of 3/4 or 3/5 of 5/8

2/7 of 3/4 = 2/7 × 3/4

= 3/14

3/5 of 5/8 = 3/5 × 5/8

= 3/8

Converting these fractions into like fraction, we get

3/14 = 3/14 × 4/4 = 12/56

3/8 = 3/8 × 7/7 = 21/56

Since,

21/56 is greater than 12/56

3/8 is greater than 3/14

Thus, 3/5 of 5/8 is greater

ii) 1/2 of 6/7 or 2/3 of 3/7

1/2 of 6/7 = 1/2 × 6/7

= 6/14

2/3 of 3/7 = 2/3 × 3/7

= 6/21

Converting these fractions into like fraction, we get

6 /14 = 6/14 ÷ 2/ 2 = 3/7

6 /21 = 6/21 ÷ 3 /3 = 2/7

Since,

3/7 is greater than 2/7

6/14 is greater than 6/21

Thus, 1/2 of 6/7 is greater.
