When a die is thrown, the probability of getting an odd number less than 3 is
a. 1/6
b. 1/3
c. 1/2
d. 0
Solution:
A die has the shape of a cube with six faces
Each face is marked as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 dots
We know that
Odd number is the number which is not divisible by 2
Odd numbers = 3 {1, 3, 5}
Odd numbers less than 3 = 1 {1}
Total outcome = 6 {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}
So the probability of getting an odd number which is less than 3 = Number of favourable outcomes/ Total outcomes
Substituting the values
= 1/6
Therefore, the probability of getting an odd number less than 3 is 1/6.
