What is the type of other angle of a linear pair if one of its angles is acute
Solution:
Given, in a linear pair one of the angles is acute.
We have to find the type of other angle.
Consider two angles x and y,
An acute angle is a type of angle that measures less than 90° i.e. measure between 0° to 90°.
Let the acute angle x be 80°
Linear pairs of angles are formed when two lines intersect each other at a single point.
Linear pair angles are supplementary angles as their sum is 180°.
So, x + y = 180°
80° + y = 180°
y = 180° - 80°
y = 100° > 90°
Also, y = 100° < 180°
An obtuse angle is defined as an angle that is greater than 90° and less than 180° i.e 90° to 180°.
Since 100° is greater than 90° and less than 180°, y is an obtuse angle.
Therefore, the type of other angle is obtuse.
