(ii) What fraction of the total quantity of water did Pratap drink?

Solution:

We will multiply the total quantity of water by the fraction of water consumed by Vidya to find out how much water was consumed by her.

Subtract the fraction of water consumed by Vidya from the total to get the fraction of water consumed by Pratap.

The total quantity of water in a bottle = 5 litres

(i) Water consumed by Vidya = 2/5 of total water

= 2/5 × 5 = 2

Thus, Vidya consumed 2 litres of water.

(ii) Water consumed by Pratap = 1 - 2/5 of the total water = 3/5

Thus, 3/5 of the total water consumed by Pratap.
