Two identical solid cubes of side a are joined end to end. Then the total surface area of the resulting cuboid is 12a². Write ‘True’ or ‘False’ and justify your answer
Solution:
It is given that
Two identical solid cubes of side a are joined end to end
So the length = 2a
Breadth = a
Height = a
We know that
Total surface area of cuboid = 2 (Length × Breadth + breadth × height + Length × height)
Substituting the values
= 2 (2a × a + a × a + 2a × a)
By further calculation
= 2 (2a² + a² + 2a²)
= 2 (5a²)
= 10a²
Therefore, the statement is false.
