Two equal sides of a triangle are each 4m less than three times the third side. Find the dimensions of the triangle, if its perimeter is 55m.
Solution:
Given, two equal sides of a triangle are each 4 m less than three times the third side.
The perimeter of the triangle is 55 m.
We have to find the dimensions of the triangle.
Let the third side of the triangle be x m
Two equal sides = 3x - 4 m
We know, Perimeter = sum of all sides.
According to the question,
3x - 4 + 3x - 4 + x = 55
7x - 8 = 55
By transposing,
7x = 55 + 8
7x = 63
x = 63/7
x = 9
Now, 3x - 4 = 3(9) - 4
= 27 - 4
= 23 m
Therefore, the dimensions of the triangle are 23 m, 23 m and 9 m.
