To draw a histogram to represent the following frequency distribution :
Class Interval 5-10 10-15 15-25 25-45 45-75
Frequency 6 12 10 8 15
the adjusted frequency for the class 25-45 is :
a. 6
b. 5
c. 3
d. 2
Solution:
We know that
Minimum class width = 5
Frequency in the interval 25-45 = 8
Width of interval 25-45 = 20
The formula used to calculate adjusted frequency is
Adjusted frequency = Frequency/ Class width of 25-45 × Minimum class width
Substituting the values
= 8/20 × 5
By further calculation
= 8/4
= 2
Therefore, the adjusted frequency for the class 25-45 is 2.
✦ Try This: In the class intervals 2-4, 4-6 the number 4 is included in : a. 2-4, b. 4-6, c. all the intervals, d. None of the above
