There are 40 passengers in a bus, some with Rs. 3 tickets and remaining with Rs.10 tickets. The total collection from these passengers is Rs. 295. Find how many passengers have tickets worth Rs. 3
Solution:
There are 40 passengers in a bus, some with Rs. 3 tickets and remaining with Rs.10 tickets.
The total collection from these passengers is Rs. 295.
We have to find the number of passengers having tickets worth Rs. 3
Total number of passengers = 40
Let the number of passengers with Rs. 3 ticket = x
Number of passengers with Rs. 10 ticket = 40 - x
Total collection = Rs. 295
According to the question,
3x + 10(40 - x) = 295
3x + 400 - 10x = 295
x(3 - 10) + 400 = 295
-7x + 400 = 295
By transposing,
-7x = 295 - 400
-7x = -105
x = 105/7
x = 15
Therefore, the number of passengers with a Rs. 3 ticket is 15.
