The volume of water in a tank is twice that of the other. If we draw out 25 litres from the first and add it to the other, the volumes of the water in each tank will be the same. Find the volume of water in each tank
Solution:
Given, the volume of water in a tank is twice that of the other.
25 litres of water is drawn out from the first tank and added to the other.
The volumes of the water in each tank will be the same.
We have to find the volume of water in each tank.
Let the volume of water in the first tank be x litres
Volume of water in other tank = 2x litres
According to the question,
Volume of water in first tank + 25 = volume of water in second tank - 25
x + 25 = 2x - 25
By transposing,
2x - x = 25 + 25
x(2 - 1) = 50
x = 50 litres
Volume of water in first tank = 50 litres.
Volume of water in other tank = 2(50) = 100 litres.
Therefore, the volume of water in each tank will be 50 litres and 100 litres.
✦ Try This: The volume of water in a tank is thrice that of the other. If we draw out 30 litres from the first and add it to the other, the volumes of the water in each tank will be the same. Find the volume of water in each tank.
