The sum of three consecutive odd natural numbers is 69. Find the prime number out of these numbers
Solution:
Given, the sum of three consecutive odd natural numbers is 48.
We have to find the prime number out of these numbers.
Natural numbers are a part of the number system, including all the positive integers from 1 to infinity.
Natural numbers are also called counting numbers because they do not include zero or negative numbers.
Odd numbers definition is given as those numbers which cannot be divided into two parts equally.
Let the three consecutive odd natural numbers be x, x+2 and x+4.
According to the question,
x + x + 2 + x + 4 = 69
3x + 6 = 69
By transposing,
3x = 69 - 6
3x = 63
x = 63/3
x = 21
Now, x + 2 = 21 + 2 = 23
x + 4 = 21 + 4 = 25
A number greater than 1 with exactly two factors, i.e. 1 and the number itself is defined as a prime number.
Out of 21, 23 and 25
21 and 25 have more than 2 factors
Therefore, the prime number is 23.
