The sum of three consecutive even natural numbers is 48. Find the greatest of these numbers
Solution:
Given, the sum of three consecutive even natural numbers is 48.
We have to find the greatest number.
Natural numbers are a part of the number system, including all the positive integers from 1 to infinity.
Natural numbers are also called counting numbers because they do not include zero or negative numbers.
Let the three consecutive even natural numbers be x, x+2 and x+4.
According to the question,
x + x + 2 + x + 4 = 48
3x + 6 = 48
By transposing,
3x = 48 - 6
3x = 42
x = 42/3
x = 14
Now, x + 2 = 14 + 2 = 16
x + 4 = 14 + 4 = 18
Therefore, the greatest number is 18.
