The population of a village is 8000. Out of these, 80% are literate and of these literate people, 40% are women. Find the ratio of the number of literate women to the total population.
Solution:
Given, the population of a village is 8000
80% of the total population are literate people
Out of these 80% literate people, 40% are women.
We have to find the ratio of the number of literate women to the total population.
Total population = 8000
Number of literate people = 80% of 8000
= (80/100) × 8000
= 80 × 80
= 6400
Number of literate women = 40% of 6400
= (40/100) × 6400
= 40 × 64
= 2560
Ratio of the number of literate women to the total population = 2560 : 8000
= 256 : 800
= 128 : 400
= 64 : 200
= 32 : 100
= 16 : 50
= 8 : 25
Therefore, the required ratio is 8 : 25
