The given table shows the crop production of a State in the year 2008 and 2009. Observe the table given below and answer the given questions.
(a) For which crop(s) did the production decrease?
(b) Write the production of all the crops in 2009 in their standard form.
(c) Assuming the same decrease in rice production each year as in 2009, how many acres will be harvested in 2015? Write in standard form.
Solution:
Given, the table shows the crop production of a State in the year 2008 and 2009.
(a) We have to find the crops for which the production decrease.
From the given table,
We observe that Bajra, Jowar and Rice production has decreased.
(b) We have to write the production of all the crops in 2009 in their standard form.
Bajra = 1.4 × 10³ - 100
=1.4×10³ - 0.1 × 10³
= (1.4 - 0.1) × 10³
= 1.3 × 10³ Hectare
Jowar = 1.7 × 10⁶ - 440000
= 1.7 × 10⁶ - 0.44 × 10⁶
= (1.7 - 0.44) × 10⁶
= 1.26 × 10⁶ Hectare
Rice = 3.7 × 10³ - 100
= 3.7 × 10³ - 0.1 × 10³
= (3.7 - 0.1) × 10³
= 3.6 × 10³ Hectare
Wheat = 5.1 × 10⁵ + 190000
= 5.1 × 10 + 1.9 × 10⁵
= (5.1 + 1.9) × 10⁵
= 7 × 10⁵ Hectare
(c) We have to find the number of acres that will be harvested in 2015, assuming the same decrease in rice production each year as in 2009.
Rice production in 2015 = Rice production in 2008 - 7 × decrease in each year
= 3.7 × 10³ - 7 × 10²
= 3700 - 700
= 3000
= 3 × 10³ hectares
