Taking x = -4/9, y = 5/12 and z = 7/18, find: the rational number which subtracted from y gives z.
Solution:
It is given that
x = -4/9, y = 5/12 and z = 7/18
Now by subtracting A from y to get Z
y - A = z
Substituting the values
5/12 - A = 7/18
We can write it as
- A = 7/18 - 5/12
LCM of 18 and 12 is 36
- A = (7 × 2 - 5 × 3)/ 36
- A = (14 - 15)/36
- A = -1/36
So we get
A = 1/36
Therefore, the rational number which subtracted from y gives z is 1/36.
