Study the double bar graph given below and answer the questions that follow:
(a) What information is compared in the above given double bar graph?
(b) Calculate the ratio of minimum temperatures in the year 2008 to the year 2009 for the month of November.
(c) For how many months was the minimum temperature in the year 2008 greater than that of year 2009? Name those months.
(d) Find the average minimum temperature for the year 2008 for the four months.
(e) In which month is the variation in the two temperatures maximum?
Solution:
Given, the figure represents a double bar graph.
(a) We have to find the information depicted by the above double bar graph.
The double bar graph represents the information about minimum temperature of year 2008 and year 2009 during the months November to February.
(b) We have to calculate the ratio of minimum temperatures in the year 2008 to the year 2009 for the month of November.
For the month of November,
Minimum temperatures in the year 2008 = 18°C
Minimum temperatures in the year 2009 = 15°C
Ratio = 18/15
= 6 : 5
(c) We have to find the months for which the minimum temperature in the year 2008 was greater than that of 2009.
From the graph,
In the month of November and February, the minimum temperature in the year 2008 was greater than that of 2009.
(d) We have to find the average minimum temperature for the year 2008 for the four months.
Average of minimum temperature = sum of minimum temperature for four months /number of months
Sum of minimum temperature for four months = 18 + 11 + 4 + 12
= 45°C
Number of months = 4
Average = 45/4
= 11.25°C
(e) We have to find the month in which the variation in the two temperatures is maximum.
From the graph, the variation of two temperatures is maximum in the month of February.
