Solve the following pair of equations by substitution method:
7x - 15y = 2 (1)
x + 2y = 3 (2)
Solution:
We will use substitution method to solve the equations.
Given:
7x - 15y = 2 be equation 1 and x + 2y = 3 be equation 2.
Step 1:
We can get the value of x from equation 1.
x + 2y = 3 be equation (3)
Subtract 2y from both sides
x = 3 - 2y.
Step 2: Substitute the value of x = 3 - 2y in equation 1
7(3 - 2y) - 15y = 2
21 - 14y - 15y = 2
29 y = - 19
y = 19/ 29
Step 3: Put the value y = 19/ 29 in equation 1.
x = 3 - 2y
x = 3 - 2 (19/ 29) = (87 - 38)/ 29 = 49/ 29
Thus, x = 49/ 29 and y = 19/ 29
