Refer to the graphic. If a cheetah and tortoise travel at their top speeds for 1minute; how much farther does the cheetah travel?
Solution:
The graph represents different animals and their top speed in metres per second
Given, a cheetah and tortoise travel at their top speed for 1 minute.
We have to find how far the cheetah travels.
We know, speed = distance/time
Distance = speed × time
1 minute = 60 seconds
Now, distance travelled by cheetah = 31.3 × 60
= 1878 m
Distance travelled by tortoise = 0.08 × 60
= 4.8 m
Difference in distance travelled by two animals = 1878 - 4.8
= 1873.2 m
Therefore, the required distance is 1873.2 m
