Plot the following points and write the name of the figure obtained by joining them in order:
P(-3, 2), Q (-7, -3), R (6, -3), S (2, 2)
Solution:
Given, the points P(-3, 2), Q(-7, -3), R(6, -3) and S(2, 2)
We have to plot the points and name the figure obtained by joining them in order.
The point P(-3, 2) lies in the second quadrant as the x-coordinate is negative and y-coordinate is positive.
The perpendicular distance of the point P from the x-axis is 2 units and y-axis is 3 units.
The point Q(-7, -3) lies in the third quadrant as the x-coordinate and y-coordinate are negative.
The perpendicular distance of the point Q from the x-axis is 3 units and y-axis is 7 units.
The point R(6, -3) lies in the fourth quadrant as the x-coordinate is positive and y-coordinate is negative.
The perpendicular distance from the x-axis is 3 units and the y-axis is 6 units.
The point S(2, 2) lies in the first quadrant as both the x-coordinate and y-coordinate are positive.
The perpendicular distance from the x-axis is 2 units and the y-axis is 2 units.
On plotting the points on the graph and joining them in the given order, the figure so obtained is trapezium.
✦ Try This: Plot the points (-1, 0), (1, 0), (1, 1), (0, 2), (-1, 1). Which figure is obtained, by joining them serially?
