NCERT Solutions Class 9 Maths Chapter 13 Exercise 13.1 Surface Areas and Volumes
The NCERT Solutions for Class 9 maths Chapter 13 exercise 13.1 Surface Areas And Volumes explains the geometry of cuboids with the help of a simple activity of cardboard. In the activity, the students will observe that a cuboid consists of six rectangles as its outer surfaces, which are known as the faces of the cuboid. Their area can be calculated by multiplying the length and breadth of each surface, and then adding the six of these will get the total surface area of a cuboid. The NCERT solutions Class 9 maths Chapter 13 exercise 13.1 consists of 8 questions, of which 6 are short, and 2 might require some extra time to solve.
If the length, breadth, and height of a cuboid are equal, then that is called a cube, the surface area of which will be equal to 6a2 where ‘a’ is the length of the side of the cube. If the areas of only the four faces of a cuboid are to be found, excluding the top and the bottom faces, then this area of four faces is called the lateral surface area of the cuboid. The respective formulas for the cuboid and cube as discussed above can be found in the Class 9 maths NCERT solutions Chapter 13 exercise 13.1 Surface Areas And Volumes given below:

NCERT Solutions Class 9 Maths Chapter 13 Exercise 13.1 Formulas
As discussed above, the NCERT solutions Class 9 maths Chapter 13 exercise 13.1 Surface Areas And Volumes gives the formulas for the surface area calculation of cuboid and cube which are as follows :
- Surface Area of a Cuboid = 2(lb + bh + hl), where ‘l’, ‘b’, and ‘h’ are the length, breadth, and height respectively.
- Surface Area of a Cube = 6a 2 , where ‘a’ is the side of the cube.
- Lateral Surface Area of Cuboid = 2(l + b)h
- Lateral Surface Area of Cuboid = 4a2
The students must memorize these formulas as this will help them in the exercise questions throughout.
