NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 3 Exercise 3.4 Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables
NCERT solutions for class 10 maths chapter 3 exercise 3.4 Pair of Linear equations in Two Variables introduces the elimination method, which is considered to be an easy one as compared to the other methods covered so far. The elimination method requires the removal of one variable in order to get the linear equation in one variable and then this value can be used to determine the remaining variable.
The chapter highlights the steps involved in this process as follows :
- Firstly, in order to make the coefficients of one variable (x or y) equal, multiply both sides of the equation by some non-zero constants.
- Now to eliminate one variable, add or subtract one equation from the other. In case an equation with one variable is obtained then proceed to step 3, else the given pair of equations is said to have infinitely many solutions if it is a true statement with no variable. Also, if a false statement is obtained with no variable, then the pair of equations is said to be inconsistent having no solution.
- Proceed with the solving of the equation in one variable in order to get its value.
- Substitute the resulting value of ‘x’ or ‘y’ in the original equation to get the complete solution.
