Make five more examples and find the greater number from them.

Solution:

Five more examples are

(a) 1.7 or 1.72

In the given numbers the whole parts for both the numbers are the same that is 1. The tenth part of both the numbers is also equal that is 7, but the hundredth part of 1.72 is greater than that of 1.7.

Hence, 1.72 > 1.7

(b) 1.8 or 1.009

The whole part of both the numbers is equal that is 1. But the tenth part of 1.8 is greater than 1.009.

∴ 1.8 > 1.009

(c) 1.07 or 1.073

Here both the numbers have the same parts up to the hundredth digit that is 1.07. But the thousandth part of 1.073 is greater than that of 1.07.

∴ 1.073 > 1.07

(d) 2.12 or 1.89

The whole part of the numbers is not equal. The whole part of the number 2.12 is 2 and is greater than that of 1.89.

∴ 2.12 > 1.89

(e) 3.09 or 2.085

Here the whole part of number 3.09 is 3 which is greater than that of 2.085.

∴ 3.09 > 2.085
