In triangle ABC, AB = 24 cm, BC = 10 cm and AC = 26 cm. Is this triangle a right triangle? Give reasons for your answer
Solution:
Given, the sides of a triangle are
AB = 24cm
BC = 10cm
AC = 24cm.
We have to find if the given sides of a triangle form a right triangle.
By using Pythagoras theorem for a right triangle,
a2 = b2 + c2
AC2 = AB2 + BC2
So, (26)2 = (10)2 + (24)2
LHS: (10)2 + (24)2
= 100 + 576
= 676
RHS: (26)2
= 676
LHS = RHS
Since the Pythagorean theorem is satisfied, the given sides do not form a right triangle.
Therefore, the triangle with sides 24cm, 10cm and 24cm is a right triangle.
