In Fig. 9.25, area of parallelogram BCEF is _____ cm² where ACDF is a rectangle.
Solution:
Given, ACDF is a rectangle
We have to find the area of parallelogram BCEF
From the figure,
Area of parallelogram BCEF = area of rectangle ACDF - area of triangle ABF - area of triangle CDE
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
Length = 10 cm
Breadth = 5 cm
Area of rectangle ACDF = 10(5)
= 50 cm²
Area of triangle = 1/2 × base × height
Area of triangle ABF = 1/2 × AB × AF
= 1/2 × 3 × 5
= 15/2
= 7.5 cm²
Area of triangle CDE = 1/2 × DE × DC
= 1/2 × 3 × 5
= 15/2
= 7.5 cm²
Area of parallelogram BCEF = 50 - (7.5 + 7.5)
= 50 - 15
= 35 cm²
Therefore, area of parallelogram is 35 cm²
