In Fig. 5.61, l, m and n are parallel lines, and the lines p and q are also parallel. Find the values of a, b and c
Solution:
Given, l, m and n are parallel lines.
The lines p and q are parallel.
We have to find the values of a, b and c.
Considering l and m are parallel with q as transversal,
If two parallel lines are intersected by a transversal, each pair of corresponding angles are equal.
So, 6a = 120°
a = 120°/6
a = 20°
Considering p and q are parallel with n as transversal,
If two parallel lines are intersected by a transversal, each pair of corresponding angles are equal.
So, 4c = 120°
c = 120°/4
c = 30°
Considering m and n are parallel with p as transversal,
If two parallel lines are intersected by a transversal, each pair of corresponding angles are equal.
So, 4c = 3b
4(30°) = 3b
3b = 120°
b = 120°/3
b = 40°
Therefore, the values of a, b and c are 20°, 40° and 30°.
