If the point (3, 4) lies on the graph of 3y = ax + 7, then find the value of a
Solution:
Given, the equation is 3y = ax + 7
The point (3, 4) lies on the graph
We have to find the value of a.
Since the point (3, 4) lies on the graph, it is clear that the given point will satisfy the equation.
Put x = 3 and y = 4 in the equation,
3(4) = a(3) + 7
12 = 3a + 7
3a = 12 - 7
3a = 5
a = 5/3
Therefore, the value of a is 5/3.
✦ Try This: If the point (2, 5) lies on the graph of 5y = ax + 10, then find the value of a.
