How many shots each having diameter 3 cm can be made from a cuboidal lead solid of dimensions 9cm × 11cm × 12cm
Solution:
Given, a cuboidal lead has dimensions 9cm × 11cm × 12cm
Shots of diameter 3 cm are made from the cuboidal lead
We have to find the number of shots.
Volume of cuboid = length × width × depth
= 9 × 11 × 12
= 99 × 12
= 1188 cm³
Volume of sphere = (4/3)πr³
Given, diameter of shot = 3 cm
Radius = 3/2 = 1.5 cm
Volume of shots = (4/3)(22/7)(1.5)³
= 14.14 cm³
Number of shots formed = volume of cuboidal lead / volume of shot
= 1188 / 14.14
= 84
Therefore, the number of shots formed is 84.
