Hamid has three boxes of different fruits. Box A weighs 2 1/2 kg more than Box B and Box C weighs 10 1/4 kg more than Box B. The total weight of the three boxes is 48 3/4 kg. How many kilograms (kg) does Box A weigh
Solution:
Hamid has three boxes of different fruits.
Box A weighs 2 ½ kg more than Box B
Box C weighs 10 ¼ kg more than Box B
The total weight of the three boxes is 48 ¾ kg
We have to find the weight of box A.
Let the weight of box B be x kg
Weight of Box A = 2 ½ + x
Weight of Box C = 10 ¼ + x
According to the question,
2 ½ + x + x + 10 ¼ + x = 48 ¾
2.5 + 3x + 10.25 = 48.75
3x + 12.75 = 48.75
By transposing,
3x = 48.75 - 12.75
3x = 36
x = 36/3
x = 12
Now, weight of Box A = 2.5 + x = 2.5 + 12
= 14.5 kg
Therefore, the weight of Box A is 14 ½ kg.
