Find the solution of the linear equation x + 2y = 8 which represents a point on
(i) x-axis
(ii) y-axis
Solution:
Given, the linear equation is x + 2y = 8
We have to find the solution of the linear equation on x-axis and y-axis.
(i) To find point on the x-axis
When the point lies on the x-axis, y = 0
Put y = 0 in the given equation,
x + 2(0) = 8
x = 8
Therefore, the point on the x-axis is (8, 0)
(ii) To find the point on the y-axis
When the point lies on the y-axis, x = 0
Put x = 0 in the given equation,
0 + 2y = 8
y = 8/2
y = 4
Therefore, the point on the y-axis is (0, 4)
