Find the perimeter of each of the following shapes: (a) A triangle of sides 3 cm, 4 cm and 5 cm (b) An equilateral triangle of side 9 cm (c) An isosceles triangle with equal sides 8 cm each and third side 6 cm
Solution:
We will be using the formula of the perimeter of a triangle which is equal to the sum of all sides of a triangle
Hence,
(a) Perimeter of triangle = Sum of all three sides
Therefore, the triangle's perimeter = 3 + 4 + 5 = 12 cm
Hence, the perimeter of the triangle is 12 cm
(b) An equilateral triangle's perimeter = 3 x side [Since all the sides are equal]
Thus, perimeter of the triangle = 3 × 9 = 27 cm
Therefore, 27 cm is the perimeter of an equilateral triangle
(c) An isosceles triangle's perimeter = Sum of all its sides
Thus, perimeter of the triangle = 8 + 8 + 6 = 22 cm
Therefore, 22 cm is the perimeter of an isosceles triangle.
