Find the area of the shaded field shown in Fig. 11.8
Solution:
We have to find the area of the shaded field.
We observe that the figure comprises of a rectangle and a semicircle
ABCD is a rectangle
DEF is a semicircle
Length of rectangle = 8 m
Breadth of rectangle = 4 m
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
= 8(4)
= 32 m²
From the figure,
Radius of semicircle = 6 - 4 = 2 m
Area of semicircle = πr²/2
= π(2)²/2
= (22/7)(2)
= 6.29 m²
Area of the shaded field = area of rectangle ABCD + area of semicircle DEF
= 32 + 6.29
= 38.29 m²
Therefore, the area of the shaded field is 38.29 m².
