Find the area enclosed in Fig. 9.46
Solution:
The figure represents a semicircle and rectangle
We have to find the area enclosed by the figure.
Area of semicircle = πr²/2
Where, r is the radius of the circle
From the figure,
diameter = 10.2 - 3.9 = 6.3 cm
Radius = 6.3/2 = 3.15 cm
Area of semicircle = (22/7)(3.15)²/2
= (11/7)(3.15)²
= 15.59 cm²
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
= 10.2 × 1.5
= 15.3 cm²
Area enclosed by the figure = area of semicircle + area of rectangle
= 15.59 + 15.3
= 30.89 cm²
Therefore, the area enclosed by the figure is 30.89 cm²
✦ Try This: If two identical rectangles of perimeter 30 cm are joined together, then the perimeter of the new shape will be equal to ____ cm.
