Dimensions of a painting are 60 cm × 38 cm. Find the area of the wooden frame of width 6 cm around the painting as shown in Fig. 9.62.
Solution:
Given, the dimensions of a painting are 60 cm × 38 cm.
We have to find the area of the wooden frame of width 6 cm around the painting.
Area of the painting = 60 × 38
= 2280 cm²
Considering painting with wooden frame,
Length = 60 + 6 + 6
= 60 + 12
= 72 cm
Breadth = 38 + 6 + 6
= 38 + 12
= 50 cm
Area of the painting including wooden frame = 72(50)
= 3600 cm²
Area of wooden frame = Area of the painting including wooden frame - Area of the painting
= 3600 - 2280
= 1320 cm²
Therefore, the area of the wooden frame is 1320 cm².
