Cost of a dozen pens is ₹ 180 and cost of 8 ball pens is ₹ 56. Find the ratio of the cost of a pen to the cost of a ball pen
Solution:
Cost of a dozen pens = ₹ 180
Thus, we can say that cost of 12 pens = ₹ 180 [Since, 1 dozen = 12]
Cost of 8 ball pens = ₹ 56
Now,
Cost of 1 pen = Cost of a dozen pens / 12
= ₹ 180 / 12
= ₹ 15
Cost of 1 ball pen = ₹ 56 / 8
= ₹ 7
The ratio of the cost of a pen to the cost of a ball pen
= Cost of 1 pen / Cost of 1 ball pen
= 15 / 7
Therefore, 15:7 is the ratio of the cost of a pen to the cost of a ball pen.
