Construct a trapezium ABCD where AB||CD, AD = BC = 3.2cm, AB = 6.4 cm and CD = 9.6 cm. Measure ∠B and ∠A.
[Hint : Difference of two parallel sides gives an equilateral triangle.]
Solution:
Given, ABCD is a trapezium in which AB || CD.
AD = BC = 3.2 cm, AB = 6.4 cm and CD = 9.6 cm.
We have to construct a trapezium ABCD and find the measure of ∠B and ∠A.
To construct a trapezium ABCD,
1. Draw a line segment DC = 9.6 cm
2. With D as center, draw an angle which measures 60°. Now, cut off it with an arc 3.2cm cm called point A.
3. Draw a line AB parallel to CD
4. Taking C as center, cut an arc B measuring 3.2 cm on the previous parallel line.
5. Draw a line segment BE = 3.2 cm from arc B
6. Join B to E and C
The measure of ∠A = 120° and ∠B = 60°.
Therefore, ABCD is the required trapezium.
✦ Try This: Construct a trapezium ABCD in which AB is parallel to DC, AB = 7 cm, BC = 5 cm, CD = 4 cm and AD = 5 cm and calculate its area.
