Check whether the following measures (in cm) can be the sides of a right-angled triangle or not. 1.5, 3.6, 3.9
Solution:
Given, the sides of a triangle are 1.5 cm, 3.6 cm and 3.9 cm.
We have to find whether the given sides can be the sides of a right-angled triangle or not.
In a right angled triangle, the sum of two shorter sides must be equal to the square of the third side.
According to Pythagorean theorem,
Hypotenuse² = Perpendicular² + Base²
Let the base and perpendicular be 1.5 cm and 3.6 cm
Let the hypotenuse be 3.9 cm.
RHS : Perpendicular² + Base²
Perpendicular² + Base² = 3.6² + 1.5²
= 12.96 + 2.25
= 15.21
LHS : Hypotenuse²
Hypotenuse² = 3.9²
= 15.21
LHS = RHS
Therefore, the given sides form a right angled triangle.
