Architects design many types of buildings. They draw plans for houses, such as the plan shown in Fig. 9.68. An architect wants to install a decorative moulding around the ceilings in all the rooms. The decorative moulding costs 500/metre. The carpet costs ₹200/m². Find the cost of carpeting each room.
Solution:
The figure represents the plan for a house.
An architect wants to install decorative moulding around the ceilings in all the rooms.
The decorative moulding costs ₹500/metre.
The carpet costs ₹200/m².
We have to find the cost of carpeting each room.
(i) Living room
Length = 3.81 m
Breadth = 7.53 m
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
Area = 3.81(7.53)
= 28.689 m²
Cost of carpeting 1 m² = ₹200
Cost of carpeting living room = 200(28.689)
= ₹5737.86
(ii) Dining room
Length = 5.41 m
Breadth = 5.48 m
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
Area = 5.41(5.48)
= 29.6468 m²
Cost of carpeting 1 m² = ₹200
Cost of carpeting dining room = 200(29.6468)
= ₹5929.36
(iii) Bed room 1
Side = 3.04 m
Area of square = (side)²
Area = (3.04)²
= 9.242 m²
Cost of carpeting 1 m² = ₹200
Cost of carpeting bedroom 1= 200(9.242)
= ₹1848.32
(iv) Bed room 2
Length = 3.04 m
Breadth = 2.43 m
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
Area = 3.04(2.43)
= 7.387 m²
Cost of carpeting 1 m² = ₹200
Cost of carpeting bedroom 2 = 200(7.387)
= ₹1477.44
(v) Family room
Length = 4.57 m
Breadth = 5.48 m
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
Area = 4.57(5.48)
= 25.044 m²
Cost of carpeting 1 m² = ₹200
Cost of carpeting family room = 200(25.044)
= ₹5008.72
