(a) What per cent of water is used for bathing and sanitation together per day
(b) How much less per cent of water is used for cooking in comparison to that used for bathing
(c) What per cent of water is used for drinking, cooking and gardening together
Solution:
(a) Percentage of water used for bathing and sanitation together is:
Sanitation = 40 litres
Bathing = 20 litres
Total litres used in sanitation and bathing = 40 + 20 = 60
Percentage used = (60/150) × 100 = 40%
(b) Water used in cooking = 4 litres
Percentage of water used in cooking = (4/150) × 100 = 2 ⅔%
% of water used in bathing = (20/150) × 100 = 13 ⅓%
Hence 10 ⅔ % points (13 ⅓% - 2 ⅔ ) less water is consumed for cooking when compared to bathing.
(c) Percentage of water is used for drinking, cooking and gardening together is:
Drinking = 3 litres
Cooking = 4 litres
Gardening = 23 litres
Total water used in activities of Drinking, cooking and gardening = 3 + 4 + 23 = 30 lites
% of water used daily for these activities = (30/150) × 100 = 20%
