A tea merchant blends two varieties of tea in the ratio of 5 : 4. The cost of first variety is ₹200 per kg and that of second variety is ₹300 per kg. If he sells the blended tea at the rate of ₹275 per kg, find out the percentage of her profit or loss.
Solution:
Given, a tea merchant blends two varieties of tea in the ratio of 5 : 4
The cost of first variety is ₹200 per kg
The cost of second variety is ₹300 per kg
The cost of blended tea is ₹275 per kg
We have to find the percentage of profit or loss.
According to the question,
Let the first variety be 5x kg and the second variety be 4x kg.
Total quantity of tea = 5x + 4x = 9x kg
CP of first variety = ₹200(5x) = ₹1000x
CP of second variety = ₹300(4x) = ₹1200x
Total CP = 1000x + 1200x = ₹2200x
SP of 1 kg of blended tea = ₹275
SP of 9x kg of blended tea = ₹275(9x) = ₹2475x
Since CP < SP, it is profit.
We know, Profit = SP - CP
= 2475 - 2200
= ₹275
We know, Profit% = Profit/CP × 100
= 275/2200 × 100
= 275/22
= 25/11
= 12.5%
Therefore, the profit percentage is 12.5%
