A room is 4.5 m long and 4 m wide. The floor of the room is to be covered with tiles of size 15 cm by 10 cm. Find the cost of covering the floor with tiles at the rate of ₹ 4.50 per tile.
Solution:
It is given that
Length of room = 4.5 m
Width of room = 4 m
Size of tiles = 15 cm × 10 cm
We know that
Area of room = l × b
Substituting the values
= 4.5 × 4
= 18 m²
As 1 m = 100 cm
= 18 × 100²
= 180000 cm²
As the area of 1 tile is 15 × 10 = 150 cm²
Number of tiles = Area of room/ Area of 1 tile
Substituting the values
= 180000/150
= 1200
Given
Cost of covering the floor with tiles = ₹ 4.50 × 1200
= ₹ 5400
Therefore, the cost of covering the floor with tiles at the rate of ₹ 4.50 per tile is ₹ 5400.
