A milk container of height 16 cm is made of metal sheet in the form of a frustum of a cone with radii of its lower and upper ends as 8 cm and 20 cm respectively. Find the cost of milk at the rate of Rs. 22 per litre which the container can hold
Solution:
Given, a milk container made of metal sheet is in the form of a frustum of a cone.
The container has radii at its lower and upper ends as 8 cm and 20 cm and height 16 cm
We have to find the cost of milk at the rate of Rs. 22 per litre which the container can hold.
Volume of frustum of a cone = πh/3 [R² + r² + Rr]
Given, R = 20 cm
r = 8 cm
h = 16 cm
Volume of container = (22/7)(16/3)[(20)² + (8)² + 20(8)]
= (22/7)(16/3)[400 + 64 + 160]
= (22/7)(16/3)[624]
= 10459.428 cm³
1 cm³ = 1000 litres
So, volume of container = 10459.428/1000
= 10.459 litres
Cost of 1 litre of milk = Rs. 22
Cost of 10.459 litres of milk = 22(10.459)
= Rs. 230.10/-
Therefore, the cost of 10.459 litres of milk is Rs. 230.10/-
✦ Try This: A milk container of height 22 cm is made of metal sheet in the form of a frustum of a cone with radii of its lower and upper ends as 14 cm and 20 cm respectively. Find the cost of milk at the rate of Rs. 20 per litre which the container can hold.
