Fill in the blanks
Solution:
We have to fill in the blanks.
Considering 144 × 2⁻³,
Using law of exponents,
a⁻ⁿ = 1/aⁿ
2⁻³ = 1/2³
So, 144 × 2⁻³ = 144/2³
We know, 2³ = 8
= 144/8
144 × 2⁻³ = 18
Considering 18 × 12⁻¹,
Using law of exponents,
a⁻ⁿ = 1/aⁿ
12⁻¹ = 1/12
18 × 12⁻¹ = 18/12
= 9/6
18 × 12⁻¹ = 3/2
Considering 3/2 × 3⁻²,
3⁻² = 1/3²
We know, 3² = 9
3/2 × 3⁻² = 3/2 × 1/9
= 1/2 × 1/3
3/2 × 3⁻² = 1/6
✦ Try This: Use the properties of exponents to verify that each statement is true. 49(7ⁿ⁻²) = 7ⁿ
